Preparing the Eggs

The shells like like orange peels.

There's real pleasure in the modeling of the shells, but they appear to have "thickness"--unlike eggshells. The egg yolk is very sensual. Not sure I understand the intense blue of the table-cloth. What does that signify?

Shouldn't every effect in a painting serve a specific purpose? That blue kind of overwhelms the composition.
