The skies in New England are awesome! This is from a photo I took on the coast of Maine. I painted it on a Hardwood panel rather than on linen or cotton canvas. I found that it was better to use soft haired brushes for this smooth surface. I like to experiment with different painting materials.

This one looks as if it's slanted to the right. That couldn't happen with the water being still. Maybe you photographed it crooked?
Actually, as I look at it closely, I see that the light colored ground on the left side might be mistaken for water. The water line is below and straight across the painting.
