A Man and His Horse

This oil painting is of my friend, Doug,  grazing his horse on a hill in Sacramento, California.

Not have seen some of your other works of this kind, I might be at a disadvantage.

But it seems a big jump forward.

There's a sense of movement and agility in both the horse and the man which is exciting.

There's the usual painterly deftness in the making of the grass heads (very nice).

There's fluidity between the animate figures and the landscape in which they move.

My only caveat would be a desire for more detail. Perhaps you see detail as unnecessary, whilst you'd like to move forward to the next composition. The paintings are a little like preliminary studies for a more finished end.
